This was a WG3 meeting of the LIAISE project where the forcing and first results were presented. Below you will find the slides used and the minutes of the discussions (mostly about the protocol).

# Minutes of LIAISE WG3 meeting on 24th of October
## Improvements to the forcing :
- The forcing with the radiative fluxes bias corrected by the CLARA and SARAH product will be ready in the coming weeks. An e-mail will be sent out to all groups who have expressed interest in participating.
- Groups aiming to submit runs are encouraged to test already the currently available forcing (details here : https://gitlab.in2p3.fr/ipsl/lmd/intro/liaise-forcing/-/wikis/home) This site includes documentation, protocols, and data.
## Model configuration :
- It was decided that no particular configuration/set of options will be prescribed. Inspired from the E2OBS project experience. Obviously all models should try to use the version and configuration best adapted to high resolution.
- Groups are encouraged by switching on options to test the sensitivity of the results. Options discussed were : irrigation, lateral water transport, activation of dams….
- The spin-up procedure was deemed appropriate. But we need to check that the year 2013 is not vastly different from 1989 so that we avoid too large discontinuities.
- It was decided that the model output would be limited to the energy and water variables of the LSMs. At this stage we do not want to go into the carbon cycle. Groups should make proposal for extra variables soon … before the runs are launched.
## Analysis :
- Surface temperature variance was discussed. It was proposed to add to the list of output variables the daily minimum and maximum surface temperature (already added to the protocol on the Wiki).
- The analysis tools can be added to the GitLab site (https://gitlab.in2p3.fr/ipsl/lmd/intro/liaise-forcing/-/tree/main?ref_type=heads) of the project so that any group can repeat the diagnostics and test their own sensitivity experiments.
- Discharge will be used as evaluation data There was a question on the availability of piezometric data to validate modelled aquifers. Question to be put to Pere Quintana.
- Various ESA CCI products need to be examined to evaluate their potential for validating the model simulations. The criteria will be the appropriate resolution (better than 10km) and a significant overlap with the simulations period. Beyond land surface temperature (LST) there could be : Snow, soil moisture, river discharge, ...
## Technical :
- The model simulation results will be hosted by IPSL and will be freely accessible to researchers wishing to use the results
- The ALMA convention (https://web.lmd.jussieu.fr/~polcher/ALMA/convention_output_3.html) for the model produced NetCDF files will be used, although if one prefers to using the current CMIP conventions, that will also be acceptable
- There is a window of opportunity to add other diagnostics to the baseline (minimum) output list currently available on the site.
- The updated forcing should be available by mid-November. Modelling groups should try to submit their output by early 2025.
