Use version specifiers to check compatibility

We currently check manually (specify an explicit list of versions) that versions of external files or object created with other tools are supported. This is not easily maintained, as we must release a new version every time of these dependencies (listed below) are updated.

We should use the semantic versioning and packaging to check compatibility.
